Groupwork

Coming off of a group assignment in this class, I want to talk about group work. I've never had a good relationship with group projects, often not working well with people I'm assigned to work with. Not every assignment is absolutely awful and dread-inducing. I had a lot of fun with the Experiential Learning project, I felt like I did work relevant to the real world with like-minded individuals. Erick and Aiden were awesome, shoutout to them.

Most of the time when the topic of a group project arises, I was everyone's last pick in terms of popularity. I did great work and was often a fan-favorite to the class slackers. Anyways, who didn't like the person that did ALL of the time? This year, I made a vow to keep all of my groups in check. I'm succeeding at it. Taking a leadership role and dividing fair amounts of work, but also being open to other options. I feel I've learned a bit of flexibility and maybe management skills? I don't know, I just like to say I'm girl-bossing.

I had a garbage fire group in my business class, we absolutely fell on our faces because I let them. I gave clear direction, told people what to do and when, and nobody did it in the time frames required. I refused to pick up slack unless it was absolutely critical. I had to take on extra speaking since I was the only one that knew how to improvise.  I'm still scared to see that grade come up into Brightspace (RIP to that A-.) But it weirdly felt liberating to watch these people I did not work well with fall on their faces. Not carrying a group is very scary but so good feeling. I recommend it 100% if you're doing well in the class and can take the hit.

I know I have a lot of group projects on the horizon still. Spring of 2024 won't end it either. In my career, I'm sure I will always have some sort of team. I'm optimistic that my future teams will become more and more involved with maturity.
