My Obsession With Coffee

I realized I had a bit of a problem when I got asked by a peer if I worked at the local coffee house because he kept seeing me there. I'm just addicted to coffee. I've been that way since I discovered iced coffee at the age of 11. It was a life-changing moment, let me tell you. It was perfect, I knew I would need to drink this for the rest of my life.

My parents wouldn't let me drink coffee again until I turned 13, then the addiction began. I would often drink hot coffee that was very sweet. By the time I was in 8th grade, I began to drink iced coffee pretty regularly. I still do. The only difference is I've learned how to make it at home instead of letting it become a financial drain on me. I've experimented with different roasts of coffee, and I really love cold brew coffee. I usually start a french press of cold brew every few weeks to shake up my coffee routine. I've been considering an espresso machine to curb the expense of lattes. I just need to save some money to start that. Which is funny since I will still buy espresso drinks in the meantime.

At the end of the day, I will choose violence if I don't have some form of caffeine in me. I suffer caffeine withdrawals and usually end up with headaches on days I don't have coffee. I've become a monster of my own creation and sometimes will tell people "I creave the bean liquid" to inform them I want coffee. It might be one third of my personality, but hey, it's a cool part of my personality because I enjoy the art of coffee.

  1. I love your voice, Raquel! And, well, with a title like this post's, you HAD ME! I can't get into cold brew. I'm a single pourover gal. Counter Culture Hologram is my poison. So good. A bit chocolate-y. Yum! I too enjoy "the art of coffee"!
